Countdown to the European Youth Olympic Festival started from the Sotkamo central plaza

The countdown timer of EYOF 2021 Vuokatti was revealed at the Sotkamo central plaza during the Youth Olympic Festival Countdown -event on Saturday 7th of March. People had gathered in the Sotkamo central plaza to enjoy the event in beautiful sunny winter weather. During the event, the organizers shared information about EYOF 2021 Vuokatti and encouraged people to volunteer and come along to organize this unique, international, multisport event in Vuokatti next year.

Mika Kilpeläinen, the mayor of Sotkamo, opened the Countdown event at the Sotkamo central plaza and commented that organizing the event is a great test for locals and for Finland as a whole.

This is a great test for us, for the people of Sotkamo and Kainuu region as well as for the whole Finland, how we can and we are able to organize major sporting competitions and events here. I look forward to the next year’s competitions and the collective spirit, that this event will bring, rejoiced the Mayor of Sotkamo Mika Kilpeläinen.

The audience had a good chance to try out different sports during the Countdown-event and participate in a quiz, where EYOF 2021 Vuokatti products were awarded as prize. Even the Quukkel-mascot was seen trying out the different sports and selfies with Quukkel seemed to be popular.

When the Countdown timer, measuring the remaining time to the EYOF 2021 Vuokatti, was revealed, it showed that on Saturday there was only 337 days until the opening ceremony of the EYOF 2021 Vuokatti.

About EYOF 2021 Vuokatti

The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) will take place from 6th to 13th February 2021 in Vuokatti. The best young athletes between 14­­­–18 years old from Europe will compete in seven winter sport disciplines. The competitions will take place in the region of Kainuu, Finland. The urban area of Vuokatti in the municipality of Sotkamo will be the scene for alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country skiing, figure skating, short track and snowboarding. The city of Kajaani will be the host of ice hockey events for both genders.
